'RUSTIC REVIVAL' SRQ Magazine. Mexican Tile Renew in Sarasota Fl is giving old Saltillo floors new life. THE PROCESS OF MAKING SALTILLO TILE IS AS handmade and organic as the tile itself. Saltillo tile, known for its rustic charm and handmade quality, is produced using a traditional process that begins with digging clay from local riverbeds. This clay is then mixed with water, hand-pressed into wooden molds, and left to dry in the sun. The sun-dried tiles are later kiln-fired and sealed, resulting in durable and unique terracotta tiles.
