Mexican Tile Floor Care: Do Not use Vinegar or Fabuloso to Clean Your Mexican Tile Floor it Will Ruin the Finish

Mexican Tile Floor Care: Do Not use Vinegar to Clean Your Mexican Tile Floor it Will Ruin the Finish. Vinegar is an acid. Proper weekly maintenance is just as important as getting the right installer in order to extend the life of your Mexican Saltillo tile. "No Mop & Glo and no Endust, no Spic and Span." Would you put any of these things on your car? Don't use them on your Mexican tile." FABULOSO CONTAINS ETHYLENE OXIDE, At room temperature, ethylene oxide is a flammable colorless gas with a sweet odor. It is used primarily to produce other chemicals, including antifreeze. In smaller amounts, ethylene oxide is used as a pesticide and a sterilizing agent.

BACK ON Feb 8, 2023... ABC News FABULOSO RECALL: 4.9 million Fabuloso cleaning products recalled due to bacteria risk. A number of popular Fabuloso cleaning products were recalled Wednesday by the Colgate-Palmolive Company due to risk of bacteria contamination, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. About 4.9 million units -- as well as about 56,000 units in Canada -- of various Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner products were impacted by the recall, according to the CPSC. The affected products were produced from Dec. 14, 2022 through Jan. 23, 2023, according to the company. "We are voluntarily recalling certain Fabuloso products because a preservative was not added at the intended levels during manufacturing," Fabuloso said in a statement on its official recall website. "With inadequate preservative, there is a risk of bacteria growth in the recalled products. The recalled products can contain Pseudomonas species bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens, which are environmental organisms found widely in soil and water."

Do not use vinegar and water a technique often promoted by tile setters after a tile installation and grouting. The vinegar will remove the leftover grout haze but continued use of vinegar, an acid, is harmful to tile and grout. The acid will eat right through the grout. You are correct to avoid vinegar, Fabuloso, and any other acidic or harsh chemical cleaners on Mexican tile floors, as they can damage the finish and even the tile itself. These tiles, especially when unglazed, are often made of porous clay that can be corroded by acidic substances, leading to discoloration and permanent damage. Instead, use a pH-neutral cleaner, or a mild soap and water solution, and avoid abrasive materials and excess water
The best place to find neutral cleaners is the hardware or tile store, not the supermarket:
-- The floors should be swept often. The combination of sand and leather soles has the same effect as sandpaper. The floor will be more difficult to clean and keep clean.
-- Use a damp mop at least once a week. Your best tools are a 32-ounce cotton rag mop, a rolling mop bucket and a neutral cleaner that doesn't contain acid, nitrates or phosphates. Be sure to rinse well with clean water.

Mexican Tile Floors Were The Only Flooring Product to Survive Back to Back Hurricanes Helene and Milton on Siesta Key Fl in October 2024. In February 2026 Mexican Tile Renew continues to restore Saltillo tile flooring on Siesta Key due to Hurricanes Helene and Milton in October 2024.

Typical flood-damaged floors on Siesta Key from Hurricanes Helene and Milton (2024) involved extensive water infiltration, leaving behind mud, ruined subfloors, and soaked floor coverings. Ground-level areas, particularly garages and lanais, saw water lines of 2-3 feet, resulting in saturated flooring.
